MAP MAKING RULES Every map MUST have:

1. Title Every map must have a title Title should be located at the top of the map in a central position Title must be underlined Title should refer to the information on the map. (ex: Political Map of Canada; Waterbodies Map of Canada)

2. Legend A legend is a listing of symbols used on a map Usually located at the right hand corner of a map Put a border on your legend Legend - Nation’s Capital - Capital City - Other city - Water bodies - Islands

3. Scale Distance on a map. It represents a certain distance in the real world Different ways scale can be displayed For example 1cm = 1km this means 1cm on the map represents 1km in the real world

4. Direction It is very important for the map reader to know which direction is NORTH This can be done using a Compass N W E S

4. Go over all pencil in pen. Use only blue or black pen 5. Maps require a title, legend, directional arrow, and scale 6. Only water bodies are coloured in blue (never colour land blue)
