1 Brenda Hartill The page should have Artist title Images of the artists work Drawing of the artists work in biro Writing about the artist in his own words A description of the artists work using the formal element keywords. He will complete his collagraph print when he returns.

2 Collagraphs The collagraph plate is constructed from a variety of paper textures glued to a surface combined with scores and marks to create lines and texture A thin layer of matt varnish is applied for protection The plate is then inked by hand, forcing ink into the recesses of the plate and it's surface wiped clean. The print is made using a printing press The plate is placed on the bed, covered with a sheet of dampened paper. The Plate is then passed through the press under high pressure, transferring ink from the cuts and ridges of the plate onto the paper. When the paper is finally peeled off, it reveals a faithful mirror image of the constructed plate. This inking procedure is then repeated for each print. In some instances further colour has been added at a second stage by applying thin translucent layers of ink directly onto the prints with small rollers and scrapers. Due to this hands-on process, prints are produced where no one is identical and each print is termed a unique 'artists proof'.

3 Brenda Hartill Brenda Hartill is a British painter, collage artist and printmaker. Her work explores the texture, pattern and light of the landscape, and ranges from finely drawn figurative works to bold, heavily embossed abstract images. Far the past 10 years she has been most interested in drawing abstract imagery from the landscape, rugged mountain erosion, structure of the land and the the dynamics of plant growth. She loves the strong light and shadow of Southern Europe, and remote New Zealand, where she was brought up, as well as the gentler greyness of the light in London and Sussex. Many of her early more figurative works are still available, and are well represented in the portfolio collections here. She is based in her studio near Rye in East Sussex. video
