4. Flipped Learning Definition “Teacher-created video and interactive lessons accessed at home. Class becomes place to work through problems, advance concepts and engage in collaborative learning” (Tucker, 2012).

A bit of the history  In 2000, Barker provided lecture notes, put online discussion and quizzes on a webpage and spent class time on group work and practice problem sets.  Lage, Platt and Treglia (2000) use video-taped lectures.  Jonathan Bergmann & Aaron Sams began flipping the class in 2007 to the 950 Woodland Park High School chemistry students.

15. Research on Flipped Classroom Strayer (2007, p.16) It is important that teachers give a chance for student to reflect on their understanding and give feedback on it.

16. Research on FC (2) Lage, Platt & Treglia (2000) Students generally preferred the inverted classroom to a traditional lecture. Inverted classroom engages a wider spectrum of learners, in particular more female students. Baker (2000) Students are reported of getting more personal attention, had more control over their learning, and thought more critically about the material following the classroom flip.

(2002) Students in reversed class gave significantly higher ratings to all aspects of the course because they felt it was EASIER to take notes and understand the lectures presented via eTEACH than attending the same lecture. Zappe et al. (2009) Require students to complete an online quiz before class (preparation “gate check”) Keep the video short (20 -30 min) Briefly review the content before in-class activities Add multimedia to the online lectures to keep students interest and engaged.
