Democrats Chose McClellan to Face Lincoln ✤ August 31, 1864 ✤ The Democratic Party meeting in Chicago has nominated General George B. McClellan to oppose his former boss, Abraham Lincoln, in the November Presidential Election. ✤ McClellan easily won the nomination over Thomas Seymour. The Democrats chose George H. Pendleton as McClellan’s running mate. ✤ Part of McClellan’s promise is to immediately end the war and restore the Union. ✤ Lincoln will face off with his former General in the November Election.

✤ November 8, 1864 ✤ Abraham Lincoln has been re-elected President of the United States, beating Democratic rival George ‘Little Mac’ McClellan ✤ Lincoln, the Republican candidate, received 212 electoral votes. McClellan carried only three states, Delaware, New Jersey, and Kentucky, for a total of 21 votes. ✤ In the popular vote, Lincoln received 2.3 million votes to Little Mac’s 1.8 million. Lincoln even beat McClellan in the military vote 116,887 to 33,748. ✤ This election gives Lincoln a mandate to pursue restoration of the Union.
