Complete Missouri Accreditation of Programs for Children and Youth Beginning of school year Daycare staff working towards CDA’s ECERS evaluation Classroom supplies Physical facility requirements Wood chips/alternative Separate infant/toddler play area Doorway in daycare nursery Physical facility requirements: Paid for by grant Tim applying for a grant that will match our funds, to help offset costs

ECERS (Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale)
3 hour long assessment 35 items in 6 subscales Space and Furnishings Personal Care Routines Language and Literacy Learning Activities Interactions Program Structure Lighting, ventilation, temperature, sound, and cleanliness Areas in the classroom Cubbies, furniture Room arrangement – centers, noisy areas, quiet areas, space for privacy Staff interactions with children Everything on your wall has a purpose Snack – family style, 3 step cleaning process, sanitizing sinks before handwashing Handwashing – come into room, before and after sensory play, before and after snack, warm water and soap for 20 seconds and dry Safety practices Vocabulary teachers use, conversations they have with students Use of books, types of books, relation to themes Fine motor and gross motor opportunities Art, blocks, dramatic play, nature/science, math Diversity, book pictures, and play materials – cultures, similarities and differences between people Technology – staff involved with children during tech, limit of 15 minutes per child on tech, should use to support and extend classroom interests Staff interaction with children is constant Free play is where the teaching happens, not drive by teaching, but in depth interactions – counting with children, helping children with morning message Transition times, waiting times limited to 3 minutes Free play of one hour, 30 minutes of recess Whole group time should be about singing, dancing, moving Small groups for reading Change in our way of thinking. However, when you do the research, you see that we are meeting our students where they are at developmentally. We are being very purposeful during play, constantly interacting with children and setting up and environment that is rich in academic learning opportunities. With the NEE, my observations of student engagement have really changed. During whole group, sit down and listen activities, students were not as engaged. During free play, cognitive engagement sky rockets.

Within the domains there are 56 indicators For each indicator, teachers keep 3 pieces of evidence Anecdotal notes, photographs, checklists Next year’s goal is to create a portfolio for each child that will move on to kindergarten DRDP app and DRDP tech feature 56 measure within these domains 3 pieces of evidence from each measure: anecdotal notes, photographs, checklists, portfolios
