PREPARING TO TEACH IN THE LIFELONG LEARNING SECTOR (PTLLS) SESSION 2
2
What we’re going to do today: Best & worst learning experiences Role of the tutor Boundaries Codes of Practice & Legislation
3
Best & Worst Learning Experiences Working individually, identify your best & worst learning experiences. This does not have to be classroom based, it could be learning to swim or drive. Now try to identify what it was about these learning experiences that made them so good or bad. Candidates who are willing to do so will be asked to share these experiences with the rest of the group. There is no necessity to do this if you would prefer not to.
4
The Role of the Tutor Working in small groups discuss what you feel the role of the tutor to be. You will need to nominate one member of your group to provide feedback on your discussions to the whole group http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i Hapv0Tv7vM www.youtube.com/watch?v=i Hapv0Tv7vMwww.youtube.com/watch?v=i Hapv0Tv7vM

The Teaching Cycle Identify needs & set aims/objectives Select resources Conduct evaluation Deliver teaching & assess learning Devise methods of assessment & evaluation Decide on content & teaching/learning methods

Boundaries Working in pairs or small groups, consider the case studies your tutor has provided. You need to decide how you would react in the various situations and the reasons for your decisions. Again, you will nominate a spokesperson from your group to feedback to the group as a whole.
7
Legislation & Codes of Practice Working individually or in pairs, now work through the PowerPoint presentation your tutor has e-mailed to you. If you prefer, you may work on this at home but if you prefer to work in college PCs are available & your tutor will be here to provide additional support should you need it.
