6 hi user's, i've started with DIF and we have interest in using it in our project SegHidro http://portalseghidro.dca.ufcg.edu.br/ I would like to know why in http://gcmd.nasa.gov/records/GCMD_NCAR_DS083.2.html http://gcmd.nasa.gov/records/GCMD_NCAR_DS083.2.html We HAVE: ATMOSPHERE > ATMOSPHERIC WINDS > SURFACE WINDS > U WIND COMPONENT http://gcmd.nasa.gov/servlets/md/frame_page_titles.py?portal=gcmd¤tTab= ¤tItem=%22%22&query=%5BParameters%3ACategory%3D%27EARTH+ SCIENCE%27%2CTopic%3D%27ATMOSPHERE%27%2CTerm%3D%27ATM OSPHERIC+WINDS%27%2CVariable%3D%27SURFACE+WINDS%27%5D5D and in http://gcmd.nasa.gov/Resources/valids/gcmd_parameters.html we haven't U WIND COMPONENT i have great interest in many parameters that there aren't in http://gcmd.nasa.gov/records/GCMD_NCAR_DS083.2.html The IDN “Negotiates” Keywords

7 In response to your interest in keywords that aren't in the list: The U WIND COMPONENT is a "detailed" variable. Detailed variables are NOT controlled. The hierarchy within EARTH SCIENCE is: TOPIC > TERM > VARIABLE > Detailed Variable Atmosphere > Atmospheric Winds > Surface Winds > U WIND COMPONENT Atmosphere > Atmospheric Winds > Upper Level Winds > U WIND COMPONENT Atmosphere > Atmospheric Winds > Surface Winds > V WIND COMPONENT Atmosphere > Atmospheric Winds > Upper Level Winds > V WIND COMPONENT The U WIND COMPONENT and V WIND COMPONENT are “Detailed Variables” within both topics: SURFACE WINDS and UPPER LEVEL WINDS.

8 Please begin with the keyword page found here: http://gcmd.nasa.gov/Resources/valids/ You will find general information on the keywords, along with the official citation for the keywords. Then you can click on the keyword list at the bottom of that page: http://gcmd.nasa.gov/Resources/valids/keyword_list.html to check the 11 sets of “controlled” keywords offered, along with the Science Keyword Rules. If you wish to make an addition or suggest a modification, please click on Science Keyword Rules: http://gcmd.nasa.gov/Resources/valids/rules.html After you have read the rules, go to the Procedures for GCMD Keyword Modification page: http://gcmd.nasa.gov/Resources/valids/valids_proc.html where you are directed to send your suggestion to the gcmduso@gcmd.nasa.gov Expect a prompt response. Thank you for your interest.
