4 USRSB Mission To advance, support and communicate continuous improvement in sustainability through leadership, innovation, multi- stakeholder engagement and collaboration.

5 USRSB Vision The U.S. beef value chain is the trusted global leader in environmentally sound, socially responsible and economically viable beef.

6 Principles and Criteria for Sustainable Beef

7 Focused on indicators and means of verification Given the diversity of ecosystems in which beef production occurs; a universal standard for “sustainable beef” is not feasible or practical.

8 Objectives The USRSB has prioritized the following initial areas of focus: Establish sustainability indicators, Develop a method to verify sustainable beef, Create a program philosophy for implementing sustainability objectives Generate field projects that prove sustainability concepts Establish goals for progress

9 Working Groups To achieve actionable outcomes around our goals and objectives we have developed 3 working groups; 1.Sustainability indicators and goals for progress; Co-Chair: Nancy Labbe, World Wildlife Fund; Interim Co-Chair: Ben Weinheimer, Texas Cattle Feeders Association 2.Verification; Co-Chair: John Butler, Beef Marketing Group; Interim Co-Chair: Rickette Collins, McDonald’s Corporation 3.Field Projects; Co-Chair: William Burnidge, The Nature Conservancy; Interim Co-Chair: Clayton Huseman, Kansas Livestock Association

10 Organizational structure General Assembly Five constituencies: Producer, Allied Industry, Processors, Retail, Civil Society Board of Directors Past Chair, Chair, Chair Elect 10 members: 2 from each of the five constituencies Administrative Staff Finance, accounting Working Groups Chaired by members, participation may be granted to non-members

11 Constituencies The USRSB is comprised of the following five constituencies: Producers – Individuals, organizations and associations of people who are actively engaged in the ownership and management of cattle used to produce beef; Allied Industry – Organizations and associations of people who supply producers with goods and services, including but not limited to financial institutions; Processors – Organizations and associations of people who process cattle and beef into saleable product; Retail – Organizations and associations of people who bring beef and beef-related products to consumers; Civil society – Academic institutions, non-government and non-commercial institutions, foundations, alliances and associations with a stake in the beef value chain.
