1 INTRODUCTION About 13 people die every hour due to automobile accidents in India. About 36% of these accidents are due to negligence in lifting the side stands. we have developed a mechanical arrangement which will cause the side stand to retrieve automatically as the vehicle starts to move.

2 EXISTING METHODS ECU (Electronic Control unit) Mechanical
A small flat rod is attached and pivoted between the gear actuator lever and the side stand of the bike. When the gear is actuated the side stand gets lifted. Small stepper motor is connected between the side stand and the engine, when the engine is started the stepper motor runs and retrieves the sides stand automatically.

3 DRAWBACKS OF EXISTING METHODS
ECU methods are not implemented in all two wheelers due to their high cost. As far as the mechanical projects are considered they suffer from a major drawback that they cannot be implemented in all types of two wheelers.

4 PROPOSED METHOD Sprocket side stand retrieving system retrieves the side stand automatically when the vehicle starts to move. The components involved are Axle Sprocket pinion Lifting lever pushing lever The working can be explained under two conditions i)Resting and ii)Riding

5 INCITER AND RETRIEVER ASSEMBLY
Inciter assembly consists of axle, sprocket and lifting lever. The Sprocket is mounted on the centre of the axle and the lifting lever is welded at the front side of axle Retriever assembly consists of pushing lever and side stand. The pushing lever is centrally pivoted to the side stand

6 RESTING CONDITION When two-wheeler is in resting condition, When rider actuates the side stand of the vehicle to ground. The pushing lever that is pivoted at the center of the side stand gets engaged with the lifting lever. During this condition the inciter assembly is at rest.

7 RIDING CONDITION When the two-wheeler is started, Engine’s pinion transmits power to the rear wheel through the chain drive. The inciter assembly which is kept at the center of the chain drive rotates as the sprocket engages with the chain drive. When the sprocket rotates the lifting lever mounted with the axle rotates, hence the lifting lever lifts thereby engaging the pushing lever which in turn pushes the side stand. This causes tension in the spring and the side stand retrieves .

8 CONCLUSION The side stand retrieval system using a free wheel is an efficient and cost effective method. This method can be implemented in all kinds of two wheelers irrespective of whether the vehicle is geared or not. The cost of implementing the automatic side stand retrieval system is very low when compared to other methods available in market. Thus the project is designed in an efficient and cost effective way and we hope that the side stand retrieval system will be implemented in two wheelers and reduce the accidents caused due to side stands.
