Use “ir” with the word “a” (ir + a = to go to) to say that someone is going to a specific place. Voy a la cafetería. I go to the cafeteria. I am going to the cafeteria. Los chicos van a la clase. The boys go to the class. The boys are going to the class.

When “a” (to) is followed by the word “el” (the), we combine the two to form the contraction, “al” (to the) Vas a el gimnasio. = Vas al gimnasio Vas al gimnasio. You go to the gym. Usted va a el centro comercial. = Usted va al centro comercial. Usted va al centro comerical. You go to the mall.
