Causes Caused by the bacteria H. pylori and Aspirin or NSAIDS(Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs) they secrete urease which breaks down mucus membrane the area that lacks the mucus membrane is damaged by gastric acid It is a myth that stress and spicy foods can cause Peptic Ulcers, but they can aggravate symptoms Occurs more in elderly people H. pylori has many flagella that it uses to propel itself

The occurrence of peptic ulcer disease is similar in men and women, but men are slightly more likely to get a peptic ulcer. Approximately 11%-14% of men and 8%-11% of women will develop peptic ulcer disease in their lifetime. The mortality rate of peptic ulcer disease is approximately one death per 10,000 cases.
