CANVAS WEEK 3 Outline for Canvas Klatch #3

USER MANAGEMENT Add a user to your course Course page -> People -> + people -> Enter student ID number -> Next -> SEE STUDENT NAME -> Continue + Add DO NOT ADD STUDENT EMAILS Only add students who have accounts in the system. This means when you enter the student ID # their name comes up.

GROUPS You can create a GROUP SET for various assignments which have different groups in each set. Create GROUP SET Go to Group Set and then create GROUPS. Add students to the Groups Use the GROUP SET for activities

CALENDAR EVENT Go to Class HOME PAGE Click View Calendar on right side Be sure only that class is checked to schedule only for that class Add event Submit assignment – link to calendar event and comment why you added it

INBOX Basic Canvas Navigation Select Course Select Student(s) or other group Compose a message Message passes through Canvas to user’s preferred notification User can respond and it passes back through Canvas to sender’s preferred notification. Copies are kept in Canvas Inbox

ASYCHRONOUS COMMUNICATIONS Create the Discussion activity and SAVE IT Click on the Discussion activity to enter it and then Edit it Open/close dates Require posting to see replies from others Graded / ungraded Group or not – must create group set first and then select group set Pin activities by dragging to pinned block or leave in general block or move to closed block.

SYCHRONOUS COMMUNICATIONS Chat – turned off due to inability to delete content posted Big Blue Conference – saves for only two weeks CCC Confer – will be configured shortly ConferNow – will be built-in shortly
