TWO APPROACHES TO LIFE ONE FROM ISRAEL Israel asks for what THEY want They did not CONSULT God They were not CONCERNED about God’s will THEY did what they THOUGHT was good THEY wanted a human king like the other nations Their mindset is, give us what WE THINK is good. GIVE US WHAT WE WANT! ONE FROM SAMUEL He was always SEEKING God and HEARING from God He was trained to LISTEN to God’s voice. He was not bothered by what the nations were doing What really matters to him is what God is saying. He asks God, “Is this what You want?” His mindset is, GOD - WE GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANT 2

3. HOW DO YOU MAKE YOUR CHOICES Think carefully, the consequences of their choices are all written in Israel’s history. Wrong – Israel wanted a king because all the other nations had one. They were chosen by God to be His people They were called to be different Let’s do it this way, because everyone is doing it this way.” People copy what the world is doing. REMEMBER – WHEREVER YOU GO THERE YOU ARE 3

4. CONSIDER THE WILL OF GOD IN EVERY MATTER WHEN YOU CONFESSED JESUS AS LORD YOU MADE THE DECISION TO DO WHAT HE WANTS YOU TO DO. Adopt Samuel’s approach to life. Seek God and understand His will. Don’t be too bothered by what the world says or is doing. For that matter, don’t be bothered by what the world says about you. 4

5. WHENEVER YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT TO DO – PRAY!!! 1Sa 8:6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the LORD. Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will.” 5 ARE YOU GETTING ALL THIS??

6. DO YOU TRUST HIM OR NOT? The Christian life cannot GIVE US WHAT WE WANT. Rather we seek God’s will and GIVE GOD WHAT HE WANTS. We give Him glory, honour and praise. We give Him our wealth, time and life. 6

7. CONSIDER THE CONSEQUENCES OF EVERY CHOICE 7 When you make a choice, you also choose the consequences. Sadly the people refused to listen to Samuel (8:19). The issue is often not for a lack of knowledge, but a lack of obedience. It is not for a lack of warning but a spirit of indifference. Whatever predicament we finally find ourselves in, it usually has to do with our choice. We have chosen the consequences.

8. GOD WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN Don’t blame God. He has, very often, revealed everything we need to know. It is not without warning. It is not without knowledge. Do you really want God to GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANT? Proverbs 3:5-6 says DO NOT lean on your own understanding; in ALL your ways acknowledge Him. Be humble or you'll stumble, D. L. Moody says. 8

9. TRUE FULFILMENT CAN ONLY COME WHEN GOD’S WILL IS FULFILLED IN OUR LIVES. INTERESTING STATISTICS 10% of church members cannot be found 20% of church members never attend church 25% admit that they never pray 35% admit that they do not read their Bibles 40% admit that they never contribute to the church, in tithes or offerings 60% never give to missions 70% never assume responsibility in the church 85% never invite anyone to church 95 % have never won anyone to Christ BUT! 100% EXPECT TO GO TO HEAVEN … The Choice, by Thomas Trask, Zondervan Pub. 10. WHAT ARE WE REALLY DOING, FOR GOD’S SAKE? True fulfillment can only come when God’s will is fulfilled in our lives. Jesus says PRAY this way – Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven! (The Lord’s Prayer) WE ARE NOT HERE TO DO OUR WILL, BUT THE WILL OF GOD. THAT’S OUR PRAYER. 10 YOUR GOD GIVEN DECISION BOOK – USE IT!!!
