2 A Relation is a set of ordered pairs There are 4 ways to describe a relation: Set of ordered pairs Table Graph Mapping

3 The set of ordered pairs. { (1, 2), (-2, 4), ( 0, -3)} The table. xy 12 -24 0-3 The graph. The mapping. x y 1 -2 0 2 4 -3 The 4 ways to show a relation:

4 Domain: the set of x-coordinates Range: the set of y-coordinates Domain: { 2, 4, 5} Range: { -3, 4} We don’t list the same number twice. { (4, -3), (2, -3), (5, 4) }

5 Find the domain and range. Domain: the set of x-coordinates Range: the set of y-coordinates xy 12 -24 0-3 Domain: { -2, 0, 1} Range: { -3, 2, 4,} We list them in numberline order.

6 Find the domain and range. Domain: the set of x-coordinates Range: the set of y-coordinates Domain: { -2, 0, 1} Range: { -3, 2, 4} We list them in numberline order.

7 Find the domain and range. Domain: the set of x-coordinates Range: the set of y-coordinates Domain: { -1, 3, 5} Range: { 6} 3 5 6

8 The INVERSE reverses the x and y’s Relation: { (4, -3), (2, -3), (5, 4) } Inverse: { (-3, 4), (-3, 2), (4, 5) }
