Up to the Cariboo When people found out there was gold in the Cariboo they started heading north. By 1860 everyone was hunting for gold. Soon there was thousands of men looking to get rich. 2

Life as a Miner Life in the Cariboo was very tough. People had to sleep in tents. And lots of them starved. They spent all their money on mining license's so they didn’t have enough money to get any food. Lots of people got a disease called tuberculosis. 3

Billy Barker A little man named Billy Barker stumbled on a piece of gold. He didn’t even have to dig. Billy Barker was in Antler creak. He managed to pluck$75 worth of gold from the ground. 4

Antler Town By spring of 1861 Antler town developed. In July of 1861 more than 60 houses developed and businesses came. Antler town was exciting but very dangerous. There was lots of robberies and there were no laws.
