We can consider a “country” from strictly a geographic perspective like physical borders Nation-State: a country that is officially recognized by other countries or organizations in the world. International: means “between countries or nation- states”. Often referring to interactions between them (social, economic, political)

7. Nationalism: devotion and loyalty to one’s own nation; patriotism Patriotism: a feeling of love and devotion to one’s own country or nation (often considered a stronger feeling than nationalism). This refers to people who are willing to fight and possibly even die for their country. Ethnic: refers to a people who share a common characteristic such as: race, culture, language, and nation, because they share common ancestors Sovereignty: political authority and control over one’s own affairs

A people within a nation of former empire can seek self- determination - the right to govern themselves, how they will live, and control of their economy and environment. Civic Nation: occurs when people (regardless of ethnicity, culture, language, religion, etc.) AGREE to live and work together and abide by the same laws.

15. NATION We have already talked about the concepts of nation and state. Your job is to identify the elements from the following definitions/descriptions of Nation and State that you feel are important.
