B UDGET C ONSIDERATIONS The district continues to fund its educational and operational costs under the strict guidelines of the State-mandated Tax Cap. The Tax Levy proposed for the 2016-2017 school year is below the Tax Cap threshold. The standard 50% voter approval is required in order for the budget to pass Remember to Vote: Tuesday, May 17, 2016 3

B UDGET C ONSIDERATIONS We are continuing our traditional posture of minimizing tax increases while maintaining quality educational programs. The Board of Education and the District Administration worked hard to develop a budget that utilizes all available resources to keep rising costs at a minimum. On a per pupil basis, the Elmont School District ranks 7th among the 56 school districts in Nassau County for least spending, while maintaining excellent student achievement. On a per pupil basis, Elmont is one third below the average county tax levy. 4

T HE P ROPOSED B UDGET Funds an outstanding educational program and maintains current class size. Includes Summer Programs for 900 students and Saturday Academies for district-wide enrichment opportunities. Includes the revision of district Math and Social Studies Curriculum Maps. Funds new initiatives such as video-conferencing and library automation. Funds the proposed Smart Bond Technology initiative to expand the district’s wireless environment and mobile device implementation. 6

ELMONT MANDATED TAX CAP CALCULATION Allowable Tax Levy Growth Factor (CPI) 0.12 % Proposed 2016-17 Budget Increase is 1.24 % Elmont Tax Levy Change 0.00% Total Budget 2016-2017 $85,838,433 Through continuing Cost Saving Initiatives and an increase in NYS aid, the tax levy increase is less than the State Tax Cap requirements. 7

2016-2017 Budget Savings Secured $150,000 in State - grant funds to update our wireless technology infrastructure. Ongoing savings in Facilities operations and maintenance through capital investment in building infrastructure; ex. - Installation of energy-saving windows Through vigilant residency investigations, the district has saved approx. $884,000 by excluding non-resident students. Finding creative ways to save on in-district services by participating in State and BOCES Cooperative Bids; 1. Teacher Professional Development 2. Savings in Technology Projects 3. Purchase of Office Supplies “in bulk” at a big savings 4. Go Green/Paperless next year – No Paper Report Cards 9

Character Education The district places a strong emphasis on educating and teaching our students to “give back” and help donate to worthwhile charitable causes such as: 1.American Cancer Society 2.American Heart Association 3.Pennies for Patients 4.Building Homes for Heroes 5.UNICEF 6.As well as an abundance of food and clothing during the holiday season. The district raises approximately $30,000 a year to give to these and many other worthy charities. Remember to Vote: Tuesday, May 17, 2016 10

Voting Procedures and Registration To participate in the annual budget vote, you must be registered to vote. Qualified residents may go to their designated school and register any school day during school hours until May 10, 2016. Evening voter registration will be held May 10 th, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Elmont Road School ONLY.
