Vocabulary Angle of Depression- An angle measured downward from a horizontal line Angle of Elevation- An angle measured upward from a horizontal line Minutes- A unit for measuring angles. 60 minutes = 1 degree Seconds- A unit for measuring angles. 60 seconds = 1 minute and 3600 seconds = 1 degree

SOH-CAH-TOA Sine = Opposite ÷ Hypotenuse Cosine = Adjacent ÷ Hypotenuse Tangent = Opposite ÷ Adjacent

Examples

Converting Minutes to Degrees Divide number of minutes by 60, leave as a decimal.

Converting Seconds to Degrees Divide the number of seconds by 3600, leave as a decimal

Putting it all together…..

Finding Sine, Cosine, and Tangent When asked to find sine, cosine, or tangent of a degree measure in terms of minutes and seconds, always change the degree into the decimal form first before using the trig function.

Solving Side Lengths of Right Triangles
