2 Early Life Sergio Leone was born January 3, 1929. He was born in the city of Rome, Lazio, Italy He was practically born into film, with his dad being in the film industry. He dropped out of law school to work in the film industry at the age of 18

3 Start of His Career He started as an assistant for Vittorio De Sica, during the making of Bicycle Thieves Sergio got his little break when the director Mario Bonnard became ill during the production The Last Days of Pompeii. It was a "box office flop" meaning that it was not all that succcessful.

4 Career breakthrough He was able to start off his career as a solo director with the movie The Colossus of Rhodes. The movie is about an Athenian who was on holiday and he help overthrow a tyrant that is destroying a city. The movie was a success. Colossus of rhodes

5 Music Leone’s long-time soundtrack collaborator was Ennio Morricone, who composed some of the most iconic “spaghetti-western” scores of all time: Morricone

11 3rd Must See: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly This is the end of the "Dollars" trilogy. In this movie stars: Clint Eastwood (as the good), Eli Wallach(as the ugly), and Lee Van Cleef(the bad). In post-Civil War America,two bounty hunters partner up track down a murderous outlaw who knows the location of buried Confderate gold.

13 4th Must See: Once Upon a Time in The West This film came after the trilogy. It stars Henry Fonda, and Charles Bronson, and Claudia Cardinale. The plot is about a harminca-playing gunman who joins a bandit in trying to save a widow who recently inherited valuable land; a villian hired by a railroad baron tries to drive the woman off the land Once Upon a Time in the West

14 5th Must See: Once Upon a Time in America This movie is his last must see film. In this movie it stars Robert De Niro and James Woods. Its a gangster movie in the time when prohibition existed and it deals with a gangster who returns to Brooklyn and he has a dream of becoming powerful in the city.

16 Awards Sergio Leone won several awards for his movies: He was Nominated for BAFTA for best director for the movie Once Upon a Time in America. He was nominated for Golden Globes for best director for the movie Once Upon a Time in America. He won the Kinema Junpo award for best foreign language film for Once Upon a Time in America. He was nominated for the David Di Donatello award for best foreign director for Once Upon a Time in America. He won the David Di Donatello for Duck, You Sucker.

17 A Copyright Lawsuit Sergio Leone was sued by director Akira Kurasawa for “stealing” the story and characters for A Fistful of Dollars from his orginal film Samuri film,Yojimbo. Kurosawa was given no credit or mention for creating the original plot. Kurosawa was later apologized to and was given $100,000 and 15% of the box office revenues.

18 Fun Facts He died at the age of 60 from a heart of attack "which was most likely resulted from his eating habits"- Imdb( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001466/bio ) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001466/bio He did not speak English and communicated to his actor through translator. He spoke French and communicate to some of his american actor through French. One actor being Eli Wallach. He was famous for his Mexican standoffs. Thats where three people would point guns at each other. The mexican standoff was later adopted by Quentin Tarantino and John Woo. He had two daughter and a son. His daughter appear in the movie as extras and one appears in a Fistful of Dollars as a baby.
