OxyClean TM system

DESMI Ocean Guard A/S Established in June 2009 Joint venture: A.P. Moller – Maersk DESMI UltraAqua Together more than 300 years of history in the maritime and water treatment industry Unique and optimum knowledge base for developing BWTS A.P. Moller – Maersk: Leading shipowner and operator with more than 1000 vessels in the fleet DESMI: Global pump manufacturer for marine and industrial applications, delivers approx 200 ship packages of engine room pumps annually. Manufacturing capacity 12- 15.000 pumps annually UltraAqua: expert knowledge within water treatment. Leaders within UV water treatment for aquaculture, swimming pools and industrial applications. Every day UltraAqua UV systems treat more than 100.000 m3 water in aquaculture alone.

Filter type and size Filter: BOLLFILTER SELFCLEAN 6.18.2 PN10 BWT Filter candles: 30µ wire mesh

Why 30µ mesh and double filtration? Tests have shown us less is not enough! We started with 40µ mesh and single filtration and tested at DHI. We failed! Problem relates to ”soft” organisms above 50 my: rotifers in fresh water and polychates in brackish water DESMI Ocean Guard is the only UV based system, that have passed IMO testing in fresh water Alternatives: High concentrations of chemicals Very large UV dosage which requires lots of energy

Landbased tests: IMO: 2 x 5 tests in two of three salinities (fresh, brackish, salt) USCG: 5 tests in each salinity for which the system shall be approved Controlled environment tests, with many requirements to inlet water: IMO and USCG system approval requirements Salinity <3 PSU (Fresh) 3-32 PSU (Brackish) >32 PSU (Salt) Additions Dissolved Organic carbon (DOC)> 5 mg/L > 1 mg/LLignin sulphonate Particulate Organic Carbon (POC)> 5 mg/L > 1 mg/LCorn starch (Maizena) Total Suspended Solids (TSS)> 50 mg/L > 1 mg/LKaolin clay UV-T (%) in DK, 1 cm - NO REQUIREMENT! 27-4941-6180-87(Lignin sulphonate) ParameterInletTreated Organisms ≥ 50 µm> 10 5 / m 3 < 10/m 3 10 ≤ Organism size ≤ 50 µm> 10 3 / mL< 10/ml Heterotrophic bacteria> 10 4 / mL< 1 or 100 or 250 CFU/100ml depending on type

IMO Shipboard tests: 3 consecutive tests with at least six months between first and last test. USCG Shipboard tests: 5 consecutive tests with at least six months between first and last test. 15 Test conditions Biological tests

Hot topics UV-Transmission Efficiency of UV treatment is depending on the UV-Transmission (UV-T) of the treated water So far a completely neglected issue, no IMO requirements or guidelines exist Several established test facilities can not provide test water with UV-T below ~60% Water in several major harbors has UV-T below 50% Our OXYCLEAN system has passed test in freshwater with UV-T as low as 38% UV lamp UV Intensity, % Distance, cm0123 0 100 UV lamp UV Intensity, % Distance, cm0123 0 100 UV-T = 0,90 (90% of light remains after penetrating 1 cm into water) UV-T = 0,50 (50% of light remains after penetrating 1 cm into water)

Several major ports are located at river estuaries: Brackish and fresh water conditions will be met and it is essential to have a BWTS that can deal with “soft” organisms and water with low UV-T resh / brackish water ShanghaiBremerhavenRotterdam

Landbased IMO tests at DHI, Hundested : Biological tests

Shipboard IMO tests on Thurø Mærsk : Biological tests

IMO type approval issued by Lloyd’s Register on behalf of Danish Maritime Administration, Nov. 2012 Lloyd’s Register type approval issued in February 2013 ABS “Product Design Assesssment” certificate issued in January 2013 DNV “Safety Assessment” concluded in January 2013 OxyClean TM system approvals

Business opportunities

Design offices Arrangement drawings for retrofit Calculations (pipe diameter, foundation, power balance) Repair shop/shipyard companies Prepare new foundations, pipework, electricity Re-arrange existing equipment, if necessary Installation of new BWTS plant Sub-suppliers for BWTS units Control cabinet Unit equipment (valves, sensors, UV cabinet) Local workforce (at DESMI) Additional workforce needed for building BWTS units itself More white colar staff (project mgr, engineers, sales staff) Business opportunities

Summary

OxyClean TM system Tested and proven under challenging conditions: Fresh water Low UV-Transmission Fully certified and approved by Danish Maritime Administration and leading Classification Societies Succesful IMO testing in all three salinities: freshwater (0,1 PSU), brackish, saline.
