Importance of Self-care in Prevention of Change Fatigue and Compassion Fatigue Michelle M. Enos, RN-MSN

i wish you could have been there for the sun & the rain & the long, hard hills. for the sound of a thousand conversations scattered along the road. for the people laughing & crying & remembering at the end. but, mainly, i wish you could have been there.

there are times i think I’m doing things on principle, but mostly i just do what feels good. but that’s a principle, too.

these are little scraps of magic & when you paste them together you get a memory of something fine & strong. she said. sometimes it takes till you’re a lot older to see it though.

i try to use unconditional love in small amounts, she said, so people really appreciate it. the rest of the time i just try not to yell.

i do much better as a goddess, she said, since my secretarial skills have always been limited.

i used to be pretty clear on what was real & what i made up, but with everything going on in the world, none of that seems to matter, so i decided to talk less & smile to myself more, so as not to add to the general confusion.

someday, the light will shine like a sun through my skin & they will say, what have you done with your life? & though there are many moments i think i will remember, in the end, i will be proud to say, i was one of us.

i like geography best, he said, because your mountains & rivers know the secret. pay no attention to boundaries.

she waved at all the people on the train & later, when she saw they didn’t wave back, she started singing songs to herself & it went that way the whole day & she couldn’t remember having a better time in her life.

my grandmother used to say life was so much easier when you were simple-minded. it’s taken me almost my whole life to understand what she meant.

most people don’t know there are angels whose only job is to make sure you don’t get too comfortable & fall asleep & miss your life

he told me that once he forgot himself & his heart opened up like a door with a loose latch & everything fell out & he tried for days to put it all back in the proper order, but finally he gave up & left it there in a pile & loved everything equally.

she said she usually cried at least once each day not because she was sad, but because the world was so beautiful & life was so short.

make sure you got clean underwear, she always said, in case you get in an accident & i always figured that’d be the least of my worries, but now i’m older & i see there’s a lot you can’t control & some you can control & clean underwear is one of those you can.

in my dream, the angel shrugged & said, if we fail this time, it will be a failure of imagination & then she placed the world gently in the palm of my hand.
