Main Ideas Thomas Nast’s drawings were a major influence in eliminating the reign of Boss Tweed, which had gained complete control of New York City’s government.

Point of View/ Bias Hysteria during the Puritan reign in Salem, Massachusetts caused colonists to attack and accuse their fellow townsmen of devil worship. Out of the 200 accused, 20 were put to death, for wrongful conviction.

Outside information/Inferences 1. Thomas Nast was a German-born American known as the “Father of the American Cartoon”. 2. Nast worked for Harpers Weekly in New York City. 3. Cartoon’s supported American indians, Chinese Americans, and abolition of slavery. 4. Created the plump, jolly version of Santa Clause. 5. Boss Tweed once bribed Nast to stop the cartoons form curculating in Harpers.
