The Fireside Poets The first American poets whose popularity rivaled that of British Poets The conventional structure of their poetry made it simple to memorize and recite. Their poetry became a source of entertainment for American families.

Stanza: A group of lines that forms a unit in a poem. Rhyme Scheme: The pattern of end rhyme in a stanza or a poem.

Consonance: The repetition of consonant sounds within words. “Dust thou art, to dust returnest” Alliteration: The repetition of consonant sounds at the beginning of words. “Tell me not in mournful numbers”
