3. Session Two, Part One: Checklist for Choosing the Project Team What areas will my project involve? What skills will we need? What roles will I need to fill? Who is the best person for each role? Who would be my second choice? What obstacles might I encounter when trying to move this person to my team? How can I get around those obstacles?

4. Session Two, Part Two: Building the Team Tips for Getting the People You Need Act with grace and diplomacy. Go to the staff member’s supervisor. Outline the benefits of the project. Work with what their supervisor gives you. Once you have the supervisor’s buy-in, get the employee’s buy-in, too. Phrase the new assignment as an exciting option for the employee. Make sure you provide the employee with as much information as you can. Let them know that you will share more information when it becomes available.

5. Session Two, Part Three: Getting People to Work Together Making the Best of an Assigned Team 1.Make a list of skills, expertise, and personality traits. Compare this list with your team members. 2.Who is the best fit for each role or task? 3.Use training or outside expertise to fill in the gaps.

6. Session Two, Part Four: Possible Pitfalls Issues to be aware of include: Accountability may be lost. Team members must be chosen carefully and they must be very clear about their responsibility to the team. Teams need a leader with more than technical expertise. Resources must be allocated at the appropriate managerial level.

7. Session Three, Part One: Building a Winning Team Define roles. Be prepared to negotiate for the team members you need. Do the best you can with the people you have, but make sure resulting problems are documented as they occur. If your team doesn’t have all the skills they need, build training into the project. A diverse group of people may be difficult to work with initially, but over the long-term they may prove more creative and add more value to the project.

9. Session Four, Part One About Meetings Why are meetings held? Are meetings an effective use of time? What are some things that should be done before a team meeting? What alternatives to meetings exist?

10. Session Four, Part Two Team Meetings Individual Meetings Start the meeting by talking about yourself. Let this segue into a discussion of the team member’s strengths and how they see their role in the project. go over any administrative changes Share the information that you have and outline the next steps. Once you have met with all team members, set the first team meeting.

11. Session Four, Part Three Sample Agenda The First Team Meeting 1.Introductions 2.Team-building exercise 3.Set team norms 4.Overview of any planning work that has already been completed 5.Review the next steps 6.Set a recurrent date for status meetings and explain how they will work
