http://www.ghrsst-pp.org What we have started…
6
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Priorities for this meeting Listen to the users and their Science and Operational applications –Plan to upgrade to give them what they want/need User Guidance is required and the GHRSST-PP ‘Service’ should be improved We need to show good impacts of GHRSST using OSSE experiments strongly - encourage this Science SSES is an ongoing challenge and very important –Merge SSES with Validation group L2P - drop AOD? Add lakes? – discuss and agree L3 – Consolidate and agree L4 – how do we validate these products in a systematic manner? L4+ - GMPE discuss and agree detailed experiment
7
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Priorities for this meeting MDB – define minimum and develop a plan –BoM implementing GDS 1.7 MDB spec. HRDDS – define a backup system and use the system more Rigor: Define plan for dashboard implementation using RSS Consolidate this in GDS-2.0 in session Learn what is going on in the community, exchange information and build the community
8
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Main outcomes of the meeting Amazing users and growing number! Fantastic activities!! Wonderful Science Team !!! Exciting science challenges!!!! Huge data throughput!!!!! Connection to Operational agencies established and developing!!!!!! Functional activities and emerging groups within the GHRSST structure!!!!!!
9
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Outcomes Need to refocus on users rather than the project itself Need to provide advice and support to user community (Science, Ops, Industry etc) Need to develop GDS-2.0 Need to ensure SSES are accurate, reliable and useful Clear need to continue

13
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Close of the GHRSST PP GPO solicited views on the future of the GHRSST-PP over the last 12 months GODAE will end and the PP has been a great success IGST thanked the GHRSST-PP ST and endorsed the work to continue in a follow on group GHRSST-PO Advisory council considered the GHRSST Pilot Project to have successfully achieved its Terms of Reference and completed its task
14
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org GHRSST-PP ToR The following Terms of Reference have been agreed for the Science Team: Based on the conclusions of the Workshop, develop a set of objectives/goals and a Strategic Plan for the GODAE SST Pilot Project; Based on the actions agreed at the Workshop, develop an Implementation Plan for the GODAE SST Project including (a) a set of objectives and strategy, as developed under (i), (b) a set of actions and work to be undertaken by the Project, (c) a schedule for actions and work, and (d) a defined set of outcomes. As agreed at the Workshop, the actions shall include testing and validation of sea temperature measurements, assembly of sea temperature data sets and associated data exchange and serving, analyses of data, and required research and development. Provide scientific guidance to, and as appropriate receive advice from, the International GODAE Steering Team on the scientific and technical issues associated with the implementation of the Project and on the use of products by GODAE. Develop an international consortium to undertake the development and implementation of the Project, including its final transition into an operational system. Provide advice and guidance on scientific and technical innovations relevant to the Project. Liaise as appropriate with other groups associated with the global ocean observing system, including the SST Working Group and Surface Flux Project (SURFA) of the Ocean Observations Panel for Climate. Provide regular reports on progress to the International GODAE Steering Team.
15
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Close of the GHRSST-PP The GHRSST-PP has successfully completed its ToR Thank you to all of the sponsoring agencies for support to the PP Thank you to the Science Team for their dedication and commitment Thank you to the user community for their feedback and uptake of GHRSST-PP products, services and activities The GHRSST-PP is formerly closed

http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Long term SST user requirements… Sustained & meaningful products –Excellent Science Sustained and adaptive-user driven services –Excellent technology for users Support to international agencies Maintaining and nurturing the link between Science and Operations for SST Provide confidence in products and delivery (new instruments) Provide ease of access, easy documents Maintain Solid standards, nomenclature, symbology for satellite SST Provide a forum and community to develop (Science Team, UCM) Nurture a responsible, mature & dependable community: GHRSST-PP &supporting agencies now have a big responsibility
20
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Interest in GHRSST
21
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Can’t turn it off… Gb Day -1
22
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org GHRSST There is ‘unfinished business’ There is a clear need to continue GHRSST activities The GHRSST name is well recognised Advisory council considered the GHRSST Pilot Project should be transitioned into a new self sustained group following the implementation model used by the International Ocean Colour Coordination Group (IOCCG) The IOCCG is made up of an international Committee of experts comprising representatives from both the provider (Space Agencies) and user communities (scientists, managers). The IOCCG is an Affiliated Programme of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR), and an Associate Member of CEOS. The activities of the IOCCG are supported by financial contributions from national Space Agencies and other organisations, and upon infrastructure support from SCOR
23
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Proposed Aim and Objectives The main aim for GHRSST is to establish consensus develop cooperation and progress at the world scale in the subject area of satellite Sea Surface Temperature –To provide a common voice for the SST Scientific and Operational user community –To advocate the importance of SST data to the global community –Facilitate the ongoing advancement of SST science –Maintaining and nurturing the link between Science and Operations for SST –Facilitate access and best practice advice to SST data –Optimize quality of data for calibration and validation –Advocate the collection of essential ocean and atmosphere data including forecast products –To foster expertise in using SST data (at all levels)
24
http://www.ghrsst-pp.org Proposed GHRSST ToR To serve as a communication and coordination channel between data providers and the global, user community of satellite-SST data, and so to maximize the benefits that accumulate from international investments in science, operations, and technology related to SST To construct a partnership, at the international level, between the space agencies and the users of satellite-SST data to develop and coordinate data utilization. To work closely with the appropriate international bodies, international scientific programs, satellite-SST-mission offices and other agencies to harmonize the international effort and advance SST science, Operations and its applications. To encourage and assist the pull-through of SST science into operational systems and to maintain appropriate documentation and frameworks to nurture better collaboration between SST Science and operational centres. To develop a collective voice for the community of users of SST data and to articulate this voice to the appropriate international bodies, international scientific programs and space agencies. To promote the long-term continuity of satellite SST data sets; the development of operational, SST data services and new generations of SST sensors; and the integration of data from complementary SST.
