International and regional associations of accreditation bodies 2 International organizations for accreditation: International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) International Accreditation Forum (IAF) ILAC and IAF are based on direct membership of accreditation bodies. IAF counts more than 100 members ILAC – 146 members representing 112 economies Regional associations: EA, APLAC, PAC, IAAC, SADCA, AFRAC, ARAC

International associations: challenges and solutions 3 Challenges: Strong Resource Constraints Competition with regional associations The lack of harmonization between global and regional levels Solutions: Ensuring the correct use of accreditation for purposes of state regulation in accordance with international regulations Flexibility, allowing, in selected areas, small deviations of the accreditation rules established in the regional associations and also by the regulators, from a global approach The autonomy of the regional associations in decisions on matters of a technical nature Ensure equivalence of results through the application of standard 17011 and standards of conformity assessments
