8 What religious holidays or traditions do you celebrate?

9 Characteristics of a Civilization Religion- Organized system of beliefs. Religious leaders would conduct elaborate ceremonies to worship gods. Religion tries to answer questions about life: – Where did we come from? – What happens when we die? – What is the meaning of life?

10 World Religions There are hundreds of religions found in the world 85% of all people follow one of the five major world religions: Hinduism Buddhism Judaism Christianity Islam BrainPop: Religions

11 World Religions Encyclopedia You will create an encyclopedia that describes and gives important facts of the 5 major world religions: – Hinduism – Buddhism – Judaism – Christianity – Islam

12 World Religions Encyclopedia For each religion, you must include the following information: – Demographics # of followers, % of world population – Geography Where did the religion begin and spread to? Must include a map – Beliefs Describe the main beliefs and practices of the religion – Research your own answers Describe traditions, holidays, prayers, and god(s)

13 Religions Map- For each religion, you will need to list the countries/region each religion is found and color code your map

14 World Religions Encyclopedia After you have researched each religion, you will complete a pie graph to show the percentage of each religion compared to the world population This will require math! Pie Chart Example:

15 Grades This will be the second FORMAL grade of the 3 rd quarter! – Each page of your encyclopedia is worth 15 possible points – The pie graph is worth 25 possible points 5 religions (15 points each) + pie graph (25 points) =100 possible points
