The ADA defines a person with a disability as a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activity. This includes people who have a record of such an impairment, even if they do not currently have a disability. It also includes individuals who do not have a disability but are regarded as having a disability.
3
Any device or computer program that allows a person with a disability to perform a task that they could not otherwise perform for themselves.
4
High Tech Device, that is commercially produced to meet the needs of a person with a disability. Low Tech Something that you create on you own to meet the needs of a person with a disability. No Tech Using an item that was not specifically created for assistive tech, but can be used to meet the needs of a person with a disability.
5
Assistive tech is only as useful as a person’s willingness to use it. The most expensive piece of equipment is not always the best solution. Make the solution fit the needs of the person. Do not try to make the person meet the needs of the tech.
