Definition An E-cigarette is an electronic cigarette or a personal Vaporizer (PV), which contains a nicotine based liquid (e-juice) that is vaporized and inhaled simulating the act of tobacco smoking. Components It consists of a cartridge which serves as the mouthpiece and a liquid reservoir, an atomizer that contains the heating element that vaporizes the liquid, and a rechargeable battery that makes up the biggest part of the e- cigarette. Common Names E-cigs, smokeless cigarettes, and electronic cigarettes.
4
What e-cigarettes look like:
5
Electronic Cigarette Ingredients Acetylpyrazine (3%) Glycerol (2%) Methylbutryic acid (6%) Flavoring essence of tobacco (15%) Propylene glycol (1%)
6
Electronic Cigarette Ingredients Continued Tobacco essential oil (5%) Orient tobacco absolute (30%) Vanilla extract (2%) Pure water (13%) Nicotine- Anywhere from no nicotine to 24 mg
7
Positives about E-Cigs The fact that e-cigarettes may resemble real tobacco cigarettes has been noted by both supporters and detractors. While e-cigarettes may give nicotine addicts more or less the same amount of nicotine as a conventional cigarette, they do not produce the same toxic smoke that can cause lung disease and cancer when inhaled over time. Since there are no products of combustion to be inhaled, no tobacco toxins are inhaled besides nicotine.

Negatives of E-Cigs lung diseases such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema Associated with cancers of mouth, kidney, esophagus, pharynx, larynx, stomach, pancreas, cervix, ureter and bladder Risk of heart disease including stroke, vascular disease, heart attack, and aneurysm. Pregnant smokers - increased risk of stillborn, premature or low-birth weight infants Children of women who smoked while pregnant - increased risk for developing conduct disorders
9
Negatives cont. Non-smokers - even among lifetimes non-smokers, using an e-cigarette for ten minutes raised their airway resistance to 206% from 182% (mean average); the researchers described this as a "significant increase". Current regular smokers - among existing regular smokers, the spirometry tests revealed a significant rise in airway resistance to 220%, from 176% after using one e-cigarette for ten minutes. Nicotine increases blood pressure and heart rate in humans. Nicotine can also induce potentially atherogenic genes in human coronary artery endothelial cells. Microvascular injury can result through its action on nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs).

In Conclusion E-cigs are new and exciting for many that smoke. Though they do not put smoke into the air and only release vapors, therefore reducing secondhand smoking issues, they are still just as addictive as normal cigarettes and have many negative effects on health. People should take caution before choosing to smoke e-cigs or normal cigarettes.
