Religious Architecture In Llangollen By Amar Azad, Claire Sarsfield, Ffion Mitchell and Maddy Brown.

Church of St Tysilio The church is just outside Llangollen, in a small village called Llantysilio. It is believed to be built in the 15 th century. It is dedicated to St Tysilio who lived as a hermit in the 7th Century, who is thought to have died at the Battle of Chester in 613. The churchyard is sloped and is called a ‘living churchyard’ and it allows flowers to grow. The church has a medieval roof and a rare oak lectern.

Valle Crucis Abbey Valle Crucis Abbey (Valley of the Cross) is an abbey in Llangollen. The abbey was built in 1201 by Madog ap Gruffydd Maelor, Prince of Powys Fadog. Valle Crucis was destroyed in 1537 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, and has not been repaired. The building is now a ruin, though large parts of it still survive. Well preserved features include the east end of the Abbey and lovely Chapter House with its striking roof.

Church of St Collen St. Collen church is the church built for Saint Collen (from whom the town derives its name). The Church is located in the centre of Llangollen. It was built in the 7th century. The structure is primarily made out of stone. The church has 8 Jubilee Bells. Inside there is a medieval roof with carvings of angels and other holy figures. The carved oak ceiling dates from the 15th Century. The church also has stone carvings of Saint Collen himself.

St Asaph Cathedral This cathedral is the smalled cathedral in Britain. It is in the city or St Asaph. It was built in the 13 th century. The cathedral has a violent history, it has been destroyed a rebuilt multiple times. The Cathedral has big stain glass windows and traditional interior.

Soar Chapel This is a traditional chapel in Anglesey. This chapel is completely plain with no stained glass windows or statues to focus the congregation on prayer. It was seen as sinful to display any decorations or carvings in the chapel so the plain walls and the lack of colour within the building follows the familiar ideals of the protestant church.
