* When giving CPR, your compression to breath ratio is 30:2. * Your pace should be roughly 100 compressions in 1 minute, or 5 cycles in 2 minutes * AED stands for Automated (NOT Automatic) External Defibrillator * Pads should be placed in the upper right and lower left portions of the chest. * Know where the AED is located in your school!

* To use a fire extinguisher, remember the acronym P.A.S.S. * PULL * AIM * SQUEEZE * SWEEP * When evacuating a facility, remember the acronym R.A.C.E. * RESCUE * ALARM/ALERT * CONFINE/CONTAIN * EVACUATE

* HIPPA stands for Health Information Portability and Accountability Act * It is designed to protect everyone’s personal health information. * Information spread outside of the necessary healthcare covered entity must obtain written permission from the patient.

* Standard precautions are measures taken to protect yourself and your patients from disease transmission. * Barriers used are known as PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) * Examples of these barriers include: * Gloves * Gowns * Mask * Face Shields * Eyewear

* There are 3 main fluids standard precautions are used for: * Blood * Semen * Vaginal Secretions * We should treat ALL blood and body fluids as if they are infected. This is known as UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS. * Workplaces MUST provide protective barriers if you are at risk of being exposed while at work.

* Anytime you see this symbol or the word “BIOHAZARD” it means the contents are hazardous to your health. * Most sharps/biohazard containers are RED

* First and foremost, ALWAYS wash your hands! (Especially after going into a bathroom.) * When cleaning equipment, supplies, beds, etc., the most economical disinfectant is 10% solution of bleach. (10:1 water to bleach) * Sterilization occurs when all living forms of any kind are killed or eliminated. * Disinfection occurs when pathogens are destroyed, but all living forms have not been destroyed.

* Pathogens are GERMS * They can be spread through the following routes: * Airborne or Respiratory Route * Direct Contact * Fecal-Oral Route * Blood Contact * Airborne hazards CAN be spread through droplets (such as sneezing). It is not just through air.

* Hepatitis A is a liver infection caused by HAV. It is highly contagious! * Transmitted through the fecal-oral route, either person-to-person, or by consumption of contaminated food/water * Vaccines are available for HAV * Symptoms: * Fatigue * Abdominal Paid * Clay-colored bowel movements * Joint Pain Hepatitis A Video

* Liver infection caused by HBV. * Transmitted through blood and body fluids, sharing needles, or mother to baby * Vaccines are avaiable for HBV * Symptoms: * Loss of appetite * Nausea/vomiting * Yellowing of skin/eyes * Dark Urine * Fatigue * Fever * Headache

* Liver infection caused by HCV * Infection occurs when blood/body fluid from infected person enters non-infected person * Most commonly occurs due to sharing needles * NO vaccines are available for HCV * Symptoms: * Fever * Loss of appetite * Nausea * Sometimes there are no symptoms at all!

* HIV stands for “Human Immunodeficiency Virus” * HIV causes AIDS * Attacks your immune system * There is NO cure or vaccine available * Symptoms: * Fever * Swollen glands * Sore throat * Rash * Rapid weight loss (AIDS) * Memory Loss (AIDS)

* OSHA is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration * They establish and enforce safety standards in the workplace * When handling electrical equipment, remember to ALWAYS check for damaged cords or improper grounds. * If the teacher is ever out of the room, don’t touch any equipment/chemicals, and remain in your seat.

* CODE GRAY- Bomb Threat * CODE RED- Fire * CODE BLUE- CPR Needed * CODE GREEN- Total Evacuation * CODE PINK- Missing Patient/Visitor * CODE YELLOW- Tornado * CODE GOLD- Hostage * CODE PURPLE- Disaster Plan * CODE ORANGE- Hazardous Material * These are the codes used for Riverview Regional Medical Center in Carthage, TN.
