Schoolyard Observations Purpose : To observe weathering, erosion, and deposition at school. Question : What kinds of changes in the surface of the Earth can we see at school? Materials : pencil, science journal, IPad

Schoolyard Observations Procedure: 1.Go to the area in the schoolyard designated by your teacher. 2.Spend a few minutes observing the area. 3.Make a sketch of what you observe in your journal. 4.Label the sketch to show where weathering, erosion, and deposition occurred. 5.Take at least one photo that shows a change.

Schoolyard Observations Conclusion: Type a short paragraph explaining your observations and inferences. Include your photograph.

Schoolyard Observations Paragraph: Science statement (Claim) – Changes can be observed in the schoolyard. Topic sentence – what changes did you observe? Specific examples (Evidence & Reasoning) – describe them; connect the evidence to the reasoning. Commentary – why do your observations matter? Why do we care about these changes?
