1 Kirori Mal College North-East Students Cell was constituted in the staff council meeting held on 19.10.2015 for the first time. A sizeable number of students from the northeast state are enrolled in the college in under-graduate and post-graduate levels. Even before ‘The Northeast Students’ Cell was officially set up, the students with the help of some faculty members organized themselves the orientation programme in the August month and fresher’s cum intellectual meet on 17 th September, 2015. This event was attended by large number of students, faculty members from North-East Region of India and the Principal of the college. After officially constituted of this Cell, the Cell in collaboration with Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd organized a discussion on 3 rd November, 2015 on the topic “Preventive Vigilance to Ensure Proper Utilization of Aid for Development of the Northeast” The speakers were Mr. Ashok Ganju, Chief Vigilance Officer of the RVNL and Banajit Hussain, an independent researcher and activist and a former professor, Sungkong Hoe University, South Korea. There was an active participation from the students as well as faculty members of the College. Kirori Mal College North-East Students Cell organised the first Annual North-East students festival ‘’8thnicia’’ the academic cum cultural festival on 1 st April 2016. The event focused on the academic importance to growth of the students through the debate and discussion on several issues of the societies and it also celebrates the diverse culture of the north-eastern region of India. The event highlight the richness of the region in music, costume, folk, crafts, fine arts, literature and many more. This festival provided a platform to the students from diverse area to interact and understand each other, which helped in mutual understanding and contributing to the national unity and integrity. The event aimed to help inculcate among students a deeper respect for culture other than one’s own. The events also seek to promote camaraderie among the students of different social culture background, to develop an understanding of the different perspectives and learn to function in a multi- cultural and multi-ethnic environment. The festival fostered a space and environment where every student feels valued and has a sense of belonging in the College. This first festival”8thnicia” were graced by Prof. Awungshi Yaruingam from Department of African studies (D.U.) as Chief Guest, Col. (Retd.) Joyraj from Indian army education cor. as Guest of Honour, our special invitee Dr. Kamei Aphun from Department of Sociology (D.U.) who gave lecture on India and North East Today. This was followed by Quiz and Debate in the morning session and the cultural events in the evening session. Large number of students from our college and different colleges were participated in each event. This marks the success of the event.
