Promoting Sex Education Autumn Raines
2
Sex education should be promoted in schools. Why? -Cuts back on unwanted pregnancies -Prevents sexually transmitted diseases -Helps keep teens from having unwanted pregnancies
3
Many unwanted pregnancies result from uneducated teens that do not realize the consequences of having sex. Babies are born to young parents who are not stable enough to take care of the baby or themselves. They usually have to put the baby off on their parents or give them up for adoption. Sometimes the young mother ends up raising the child on her own because the father doesn’t want to give up his life for a “mistake”.
4
Sex education can give insight on the consequences of unprotected sex. It also lets them know information about resources available that will help prevent pregnancy and STDs. Health departments screen for STDs and give information on ways to prevent them. Diseases such as HIV/AIDS, gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis and many others can be prevented by protected sex or by abstinence.
5
It is important to educate young people on the problems that can result from having random, meaningless relationships. Meaningless relationships in young years can lead to the same kind of relationships in the future. They should be educated on the values of healthy, happy relationships. They may be misled into believing that commitment is not important when choosing a life companion. When one partner is more attached to the other, it may cause emotions and jealousy. Those feelings can lead to unwanted outcomes such as harm to oneself, suicide and murder.
6
On the Other Hand.. Many parents feel like sex education should not be offered that early in kids’ lives. They think it gives permission to have sex as long as they protect themselves. They may think that the teens will get imaginative and want to experience sex and what it is all about for themselves. Most parents want to be the ones teaching their kids about a topic as serious as sex.
7
In Conclusion, Young people are going to learn about sex whether it comes from TV, friends, books or games. It is better to educate them the correct way because sex scenes on TV and in books may be deceiving and far from the real experience. Sex education should be provided to young teens by professional people for the sake of better judgment and proper choices of the younger generation.
