2 Changes in Campus Immigration Services Policy All new non-resident tenure-track hires will have legal expenses made part of initial complement All pending cases have been included in new policy Faculty should apply for special handling, which has rapid processing

3 Changes in Campus Immigration Services Policy Non-resident non tenure-track hires will not have legal expenses paid by campus Non tenure-track faculty must apply for permanent residency under the category of exceptional scholar or researcher The application process takes up to two years

4 Changes in Campus Immigration Services Policy Temporary residence visas for campus visitors such as researchers are generally of two types: J-1 and H1-B UCR will change its policy on who may apply for these in June

5 Changes in Campus Immigration Services Policy J-1 Exchange Visitor – 3 year maximum (approved in any increments). – Must provide evidence of minimum financial support. – Must have health insurance coverage – Processing time is 2-3 months – Cannot subsequently apply for H1-B

6 Changes in Campus Immigration Services Policy H-1B Exchange Visitor – 6 year maximum – Minimum salary ("prevailing wage") required, except for union represented (SRAs and lecturers). – Employment is restricted to the job duties as stated in the original application. – Longer processing time and much more work for campus

7 Changes in Campus Immigration Services Policy Effective in June, UCR will no longer allow postdoctoral researchers to apply for H-1b status No other UC campus allows this We are vulnerable to audit We may have liability if funding runs out
