Interest Groups A group of people organized around bringing about a cause. Interest groups fight for certain issues in our government Gay rights Abortion Gun Control Tobacco And MORE!MORE!

Interest groups serve a variety of functions… Stimulate interest in public affairs Represent their members on the basis of shared attitudes Provide useful, specialized information to government Help facilitate political participation Add another element to checks and balances Competition in public arenas
