Why do Jim and Huck feel like they can trust each other with their plans of escape? Since Jim’s first instinct of first seeing Huck was that he was a ghost, do you think Jim still believes he is one? DO you think that Tom would have been a better partner for Huck to live on the island with?

Higher Level Questions cont. On page 62, they bring up good luck charms to become rich. Why do you think they still want to be rich even though they aren’t in contact with anybody? Does it seem like Jim has had an influence on the way Huck lives his life? Why or why not? Does Jim use his fear of bad luck as a way to get out of talking about subjects he doesn’t like? Or does he really mean it? Explain. Does Huck secretly miss living in a civilized town with friends and family that he knew?

Writing Prompt With all the intense detail of the island and cavern that Huck and Jim live on, do you think he is using his imagination from when he was a child to make his own dream fort?
