Vendor Relations School Board Policy 426

Compensation – Refers to any item of value in exchange for anything of value. “Something for Something” Gift – May include food, beverage, membership dues, transportation, admission fees, gift cards, flowers, tickets to events, etc. (Complete definition in FSS 112.312) What is the difference between Compensation and Gift?

Can I accept a gift? Policy 426 states that no employee who, in any way, participates in a contractual service or commodity may accept a “gift” in excess of $50. The Code of Ethics states that no employee may accept any gratuity, gift, or favor that might influence professional judgment. It goes further to state that no employee may offer any gratuity, gift, or favor to obtain special privileges.

Can I accept compensation from a vendor? No employee shall accept any form of compensation from vendors or potential vendors if the employee is involved in any way with the selection process, without written authorization from the superintendent. This also applies after the decision has been made to utilize the vendor. Remember: The Code of Ethics states that no employee may accept any gratuity, gift, or favor that might influence professional judgment. It goes further to state that no employee may offer any gratuity, gift, or favor to obtain special privileges.

You should promptly notify the Director of Professional Standards, in writing, that you received such compensation or gift. You should also promptly transmit said compensation/gift to the Office of Professional Standards. What should I do if I receive unsolicited compensation or a gift?

The Office of Professional Standards will be happy to assist with any questions or situations involving this topic. Whom should I contact with any questions?

What if this policy is violated? Violations of this policy, as with any policy, may result in disciplinary action.
