3
So why are we here?
4
‘We don’t talk about that in this school’ Can you guess what this was about?
5
What do you think should be included in the PSHE curriculum? What is it’s purpose?
6
SMSC- Social, moral, spiritual cultural curriculum. This is the over-arching curriculum which links in with the whole school curriculum and everything we do. Links with school and British Values Assemblies Our new Wonders Curriculum- more info to come! But the PSHE curriculum is specific to timetabled PSHE lesson each week.
7
4 areas of the PSHE curriculum British Values Preparation for life in modern Britain Health and wellbeing Safe risk assessments But the specific PSHE Curriculum has 4 key areas
8
British Values Explicit teaching through structured Wednesday assemblies Will be taught alongside the PSHE curriculum and tie in with Learning Objectives whenever possible. Moving away from the stand alone lessons on ‘the rule of law’ and linking it with learning objectives within the MTPs.
9
Health and wellbeing Still including more traditional health and wellbeing topics about hygiene, exercise and healthy eating. Unit called growing and changing builds through the years. Moving towards mental health, coping with loss and emotions. More emphasis on the whole wellbeing on the child and can make links with other areas of the PSHE curriculum.
10
Safe risk assessments Still including, fire, water, road, and bike safety. Moving towards a curriculum to give the children the necessary skills to make safe risk assessments in their lives. Current issues- E safety, medicine and drug use and sexual exploitation. Looking at ways in which this topics are covered in an age appropriate and sensitive way but still having the impact needed.
11
Preparation for life in Modern Britain Can often be the most tricky and controversial. Covers things like; FGM, LGBT, all protected characteristics, Racism, Bullying and Extremism and Radicalisation. How would you tackle some of these topics?
12
In order to cover all four areas of the curriculum the MTP’s have been split up in 3 themes – over the 3 terms Within this each theme is then spilt into 3 sections. It is up to you which order and how you want to follow this.
14
Some will have links to suggested resources

Some will have guided reading links

Recap 45-1 hr timetable session each week. Can be conducted through circle time, but with a written reflection at least every two weeks. KS1/ lower KS2 can be a short collective class reflection that can be stuck into everything book. KS2- a personal reflection written at the end of a PSHE session- no longer than 10/15 minutes work. Highlighting of objectives matches to the key at the top of the page and can link with teaching British Values. Themes can be taught in any order over the course of the year- Yr 5 + 6 you may want to look at this because of Sex Ed. But all must be covered and have evidence of in EBs. Don’t be alarmed by all the objectives more several can be covered in just one session!
18
Eventually I would love to create a PSHE art display with a end theme piece from each class, to really show off what the children are doing so please keep that in mind when planning!
19
Updating Medium term plans Please can Simon and I have all updated MTP’s with new PSHE WALT/objectives by Monday 25 th April at 12pm as we will be looking through them during the afternoon!
