1 Council of International Schools “Your Worldwide Partner in International Education” Our Mission The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a not-for-profit association of schools and post-secondary institutions working collaboratively for the continuous improvement of international education.

2 Preliminary Visit ● Understand the school’s philosophy and objectives ● Evaluate the school program and operations based on the accreditation standards and the school’s philosophy and objectives. ● Ascertain the school’s readiness to move toward full accreditation and undertake the self-study ● Provide feedback regarding areas for improvement through written recommendations ● Clarify with the school community the forthcoming evaluation process and procedures, including a timeline for next stages.

School policies concerning identification of, and provision for, students needing English Language Support. Use G drive folders

5 Group Meetings Monday 25 th May 3.30 – 4.30pm Meeting with the whole staff to explain the accreditation process; A small representative group of staff – 45 minutes; A group of support staff – 30 minutes; The school council – 1 hour; A group of representative parents – 1 hour; A group of students – 30 minutes; Half day workshop for SLT and TLR1s. Minimum timings given

6 Focussed Meetings These will be approx 45 minutes. ● Each member of SLT individually ● Heads of department (sometimes in small groups no more than 3). ● Librarian ● Higher Education Guidance Counsellor ● Business manager ● School Nurse

7 Classroom Observations One hour a day over the three days. Informal No special arrangements. “…. to obtain a ‘feel’ for teaching and learning in the school”

11 IS School Self Evaluation 2008-09 Next year this will be subsumed into the CIS: WASC process, but this year subject reports will be central to the preliminary visit. Monday 30th March SSE reports are requested. Pro-formas given out to HODs. Written evaluations from Heads of SDP strands and progress reports from development teams requested. Monday 18th May SSE reports due in from departments and progress reports from development teams. Development team vision statements / objectives for inclusion in the draft SDP also submitted. Into G drive folders. Monday 1st June Draft whole school SSE report 2008-09 distributed to staff Wednesday 17th June SSE / SDP goes to School Council for ratification
