What does a mine look like inside? A coal mine is a long tunnel dug into the earth lit up with lamps. The walls and roofs are usually reinforced with wood.

How deep do mines go? A mine is 3-4 km deep.

How are they ventilated? They are ventilated with Large ventilation systems.

How do miners extract coal? Miners use heavy machinery to cut the coal and use an elevator system to take it out.

How is the coal brought to the surface and what happens to the coal when it is extracted? Coal is brought to the surface by using a conveyor system and heavy machinery.

Why is mining so dangerous? Who oversees the mine industry? Mining is dangerous because you have a chance to get stuck in the cave. The NSW Oversees the mine industry.

How many miners die each year due to safety issues? 30 miners in the us die each year.
