Introduction When did you know your spouse was the one? Love is a basic element of our world - Matthew 22:36-40 - “…You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 “This is the great and foremost commandment. 39 “The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself…” Purpose of our study

What is Love?!? How would the world define love - “butterflies in your stomach”; “warm feeling when around someone special” New Oxford Dictionary - an intense feeling of deep affection a deep romantic or sexual attachment to someone a great interest and pleasure in something a formula for ending an affectionate letter

How would the Bible define love - 1 Corinthians 13:4-8a - “ 4 Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, 5 does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, 6 does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; 7 bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 8 Love never fails;…”

What is Love?!? How would the Bible define love - “patient” - “long tempered” (Exodus 34:6; Numbers 14:18; Psalm 86:15) “kind and not jealous” (Luke 5:39) “does not brag or become arrogant” “does not act unbecomingly” “does not seek its own” “is not provoked” “does not take into account a wrong suffered”

What is Love?!? How would the Bible define love - “does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices in truth” “bears all things” (1 Peter 4:8; James 5:19-20) “believes all things” (1 Timothy 6:4) “hopes all things” “endures all things” (1 Corinthians 4:11- 13) “Love never fails”

How is love manifested?!? Love is manifested in giving - As the Father - John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 John 4:7-8 As the Son - John 15:13 Our ability to give to one another - 2 Corinthians 8:1-5; Acts 20:35 (Galatians 6:2); 1 John 3:16-17

How is love manifested?!? Love is manifested in submitting/obeying - Husbands and Wives - Ephesians 5:22, 25; 1 Peter 3:1, 7 Brothers and Sisters in Christ - John 15:12, 17 Submitting to one another - Philippians 2:3; Romans 12:9-13

How is love manifested?!? Love is manifested in deeds - 1 John 3:18-19 - 18 Little children, let us not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and truth. 19 We will know by this that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart before Him”

How is love manifested?!? Love is manifested in our relationship - Colossians 3:14; 1 Peter 1:22-23; Romans 16:16; 1 Corinthians 16:20

Conclusion Matthew 7:12 - “ 12 “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” (cf. Romans 13:8) “Love One Another!”
