2 DROP EVERYTHING and READ Pull your novel from your backpack, choose a book from our class library, get out a magazine – doesn’t matter what you read, but you must read until the timer sounds DEAR time is QUIET time – NO TALKING, ONLY READING Classroom library – IF you choose to BORROW a book from the classroom library, PLEASE treat it well. – Do not write in books – Do not bend pages or tear/bend covers – If you are removing the book from the room to continue reading, please make sure you sign it out.

3 FREE WRITE Please put away your reading, open your IN to page 19, 20, or 21, and get out a writing utensil. – Write – Write about the picture or about anything you wish to write about. Continue to write until the timer sounds.

11 Narrative On page 28 (the left), write these instructions – Write a 1 page narrative on page 29 (the RIGHT) about the video you watched about 9/11. – The narrative can be A short story in FIRST PERSON about 9/11 An essay discussing the video – Your grade will be based on your word choice (diction), grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, organization, and focus. See the ESSAY RUBRIC.

12 Socratic Seminar Reflection Please write these directions on the LEFT of your IN – List 3 things you learned during the SS – Write 10-15 complete sentences of discussion/reflection about the Socratic Seminar and “On Self-Respect” – You will be graded based pertinent areas of the essay rubric – Before starting with your reflection essay, ask yourself a couple of questions, such as: how do I feel about this topic? How does it affect me, if it does at all? If it doesn't affect me, why? Notice that the questions are all personal. That is because a reflection essay asks you to express your insights. Knowing the answers to these personal questions can help you begin your reflection essay. Do not limit yourself to these three questions. Explore more that asks you to state your opinion.
