Useful Sentences What would you say to/What about… It has been our customary practice to require… We do accept… Will…be acceptable? I have to stick to our usual practice. We can use easier terms of payment … I hope we can trade on customary terms, i.e., … The balance is paid by … We’ve been paying you by sight L/C. We propose to pay by 30 days L/C. We can go according to conventions.

L/C to importer Opening an L/C causes us many expenses because it requires a certain sum of deposit in the bank. Payment by L/C is a bit complicated and expensive. Payment by L/C is rather costly to the importers. The bank charges can be unbearably high sometimes.

L/C to exporter Payment by L/C provides guarantee to both the sellers and the buyers. It gives the best protection to the exporters. As this is the first deal between us, I hope we can trade on customary terms, i.e., letter of credit payable against sight draft.

D/P to expoter We do accept D/P, but only for some regular customers and a small amount involved in the deals. We accept D/P only if the amount is under USD2,000.
