3. My To Do List: Why we need to do something different 3 We cannot afford to do what we’ve been doing for young people. The County Council has to find £150m savings over the next 3 years. Part of the savings for this year is the money we have been spending on the youth service.

4. My To Do List: 4 Why we need to do something different The Government and Members of the County Council think that ‘the state’ should do less and people in local communities should do more for themselves, as part of the ‘Big Society.’ This means we will provide less services ourselves and do more to support others to provide services.

My To Do List: What we are proposing 5 and critically,young people themselves A Youth Advisory Board in each District made up of all the key agencies working with young people, and critically, young people themselves. Youth Advisory Boards will decide what support is needed to help local communities meet young people’s needs and how any money for young people is used.

6. My To Do List: What we are proposing 6 £675,000 will be used to support seven Youth Advisory Boards (YABs). This will mean we can: pay an organisation/s to provide some support to each YAB to work with local communities, provide each YAB with a local commissioning budget.

7. My To Do List: Why we’re proposing this 7 Because Because more of young people’s needs will have to be met by people and organisations in their local community. All young people have needs at different times and there are lots of places and people they turn to for help and support when they need it. But we know that for some young people their needs are greater sometimes and that they need more help at these times.

8. My To Do List: Why we’re proposing this 8 Because Because local communities will need help to be able to meet these young people’s needs. There are lots of local groups working well with young people who need help to be able to meet young people’s needs rather than referring them to someone else. Young people with the greatest needs will still have the support that they need.

9. My To Do List: Why we’re proposing this 9 Because Because working out and agreeing what local funding there is for young people will create new opportunities, as well as be difficult at times. There is much less money for things that we might want to offer but working together helps. Decisions should be made locally about what the priorities are.

10. My To Do List: Why we’re proposing this 10 Because Because we will still use some funding to support a limited amount of other things for young people. This includes providing information on what positive activities are available locally, supporting others to work with local youth groups & maintaining young people’s access to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.

11. My To Do List: Why we’re proposing this 11 Because Because by supporting Youth Advisory Boards we can ensure that the best decisions are made for young people and those working with them. Commissioning means looking at what local needs are, planning how best to meet these needs, delivering support or arranging for someone else to do it and then checking how well this is being done.

13. My To Do List: Why we need your views 13 Our proposals will only work if everyone who needs to be involved, including young people, work together. So we are holding a number of discussion events and opportunities, like this one, to help us develop our ideas. These will make a difference to our final decisions on what we do.
