Your final paper is due on Friday, 5/20. In this paper you are arguing for a specific interpretation of your book club text, researching the novel and outside material. Length: 4-6 Pages Rubric: AP Rubric Additional Requirements: 1) Student-led research topic with assistance if needed 2) You must incorporate two scholarly sources 3) Must be submitted by midnight on 5/20 via turnitin.com Final Paper

This paper is an interpretive essay and not a review. As such, you need to ensure that you do not merely summarize your novel or play. You must first decide on a research topic, seeing me if you need guidance. This topic should cover any interesting aspect of the novel that you want to research and construct an argument around. Be sure to run your thesis statement by me on Wednesday. Avoid statements such as: Call of the Wild contains many exciting, suspenseful elements, and I enjoyed the book as a whole. Instead, try to incorporate a more revelatory interpretation: Through paradox, symbolism, and imagery of passion Hawthorne reveals the sheer hypocrisy of Puritan belief. Examples

Jack London’s use of savage imagery, symbolism, and dilemma illustrate the overriding influence that nature has on the shaping of character. Ultimately, Hester Prynne’s scarlet letter defies both Purtian modesty and literary conventions. OR...
