Image Size Image/Image Size to resize an image Image/Canvas Size to increase or decrease art space (can also use crop tool)

Image Size What image size do you need? o Native pixel size of projector o Largest size for overall projection o Larger than needed for images that will scale.

Image Size Example o Using XGA projector at 1024 x 768 o Using two projectors - maximum size would be 2048 x 768 Final image will be edge blended between projectors (try for at least 100 pixels per blend). For instance: ((1024 – 100) + (1024 – 100)) = 1848 o Final Size: 1848 x 768

Examples o Scenic unit is 14’ by 5’ o 1848px/14’ = 132 pixels per foot o 132 * 5’ = 660 pixels vertical (so you are throwing away 108 pixels). Image Size A Scenic Twinkie 768 px 1848 px

Image Mode RGB – computer images CMYK – print Grayscale (no color) GIF files may be Indexed and should be converted to RGB.

Selection Techniques ALT to subtract from a selection SHIFT to add to a selection Select/Modify to modify a selection

Layer Mask – Painting a Selection Make an initial selection Click on the masking tool in the layer window. Modify the selection with the brush tool o Black to Subtract o White to Add

Layer Mask – Painting a Selection Click on the mask X to switch between foreground and background color. ] or [ to increase or decrease brush size.

Blending Modes

Calculate color based on pixels of layers underneath. Darken modes – drop out white Lighten modes – drop out black

Blending Modes Contrast modes – combine Darken & Lighten modes into one. Inversion modes – spin round the colorwheel Component/Property modes – replaces image color properties with those of the pixels below. (such as hue)

Paint with Modes Click on the brush tool Pick a color Choose a blending mode in tool options. o Paint with wild abandon!

Layer Styles Choose a layer and click on the fx button in the layer window Choose a style to modify (check the box). Modify the style

Filters & Effects Image/Adjustments Layer/New Adjustment Layer Filter/Filter Gallery Filter/Convert for Smart Filters

Gradients & Fills Gradient Tool to create a gradient o Click on tool options to select colors of the gradient. Fill bucket to replace color o Contiguous – pixels must be touching o Tolerance – set required similarity of color choice

Stamps Clone Stamp (excellent tool to paint texture beyond the bounds of the original image) o ALT click to select the pixels to copy o Paint where you want the copy to go. Healing Brush (excellent tool to simplify an image) o ALT click to select the pixels o Paint where you want them to go. Patch Tool (a lovely party trick) o Select the source o Drag to an area of the image that you wish to replace the source.

File Formats File/Save o Save as PSD for Premiere or After Effects File/Save for Web o PNG 24 & GIF can save transparency o JPEG does not have transparency
