© Hamilton Trust Keeping Up Term 1 Week 7 Day 3 Look at these different strategies – which is your favourite? 5.8 + 3.4 is like 58 + 34 So… 50 + 30 and 8 + 4 Total 80 + 12 = 92 So… 5.8 + 3.4 is 9.2 5.8 + 3.4 is like 58 + 34 So… 58 + 30 = 88 And 88 + 4 is 92 So… 5.8 + 3.4 is 9.2 0.2 5.8 6.06.2 9.2 3

If you can spot them, they are zero effort! 1.5.6 + 4.5 = 2. 5.6 + 4.8 = 3.6.7 + 3.3 = 4. 6.8 + 4.2 = 5.7.6 + 4.7 = 6. 6.5 + 6.7 = 7.4.8 + 7.4 = 8. 4.2 + 5.8 = 9.7.5 + 3.7 = 10. 3.8 + 5.6 = 11. 3.5 + 8.8 = 12. 2.6 + 7.4 =

© Hamilton Trust Keeping Up Term 1 Week 7 Day 3 Palindromic numbers Write a one-place decimal number less than 10 Reverse the digits Add the two numbers Look and see if you have a number that reads the same forwards and backwards. If not, repeat the process. Reverse the digits Add the two numbers Eventually you will get a number that reads the same forwards as backwards! 3.8 8.3 Total = 12.1 4.8 8.4 Total = 13.2 13.2 + 23.1 Total = 36.3 ✔ ✔
