12. To present a professional military image individual will:  Maintain all uniform clothing items issued.  Uniforms will be neat, clean, pressed, buttoned, and properly maintained. Cadets will not:  Stand or walk with hands in pockets of any uniform combination, other than to insert or remove items.  Walk in uniform while using cell phones, radios, hands-free headsets unless required in the performance of official duties using a government issued device.  Drink, or eat while walking in uniform.

13. Hair Style will be clean, well- groomed and neat. Hair style will not:  Contain excessive amount of grooming aids, touch eyebrows.  Hair color/highlights/frosting (must not be faddish).  Examples of natural looking for human beings, Blonde/Brunette/Red/Black/Grey.

14.  Have a tapered appearance on both sides and back, both with and without headgear. A tapered appearance is one that when viewed from any angle outlines the individual's hair so that it conforms to the shape of the head, curving inward to the natural termination point.  Block cut permitted with tapered appearance.  Cleanly shaven heads, military high- and- tight, or flat top haircuts are authorized. Acceptable

15. Be worn in an extreme or fad style or in such a way that exceeds length or bulk standards or violates safety requirements. Protrude below the front band of properly worn headgear. Touch the ears and only closely cut or shaved hair on the back of the neck may touch the collar. Exceed 1 1/4 inches in bulk, regardless of length and exceed 1/4 inch at the natural termination point. Contain or have any visible foreign items attached to it.

16.  Be styled to present a professional appearance.  Allow the wear of conservative hairpins, combs, headbands, elastic bands and barrettes. Hair pins and bands must match hair color.  Long hair will be secured with no loose end. (See note.) NOTE: The intent of this item is that long hair should be styled in a manner that prevents loose ends from extending upward on the head. (For example: when using the claw clip or hairpins, hair will not present the appearance of a “rooster tail”; when hair is in a bun, all loose ends must be tucked in and secured; when hair is in a pony tail, it must be pulled all the way through the elastic band and may hang naturally downward, not extending below the bottom of the collar).

17.  Bangs, if worn, will not touch the eyebrows.  Braids, micro-braids and cornrows are authorized. However, must be solid color similar to the individual's hair color; conservative and not present a faddish appearance.  Allow proper wear of the headgear.

18. Be worn in an extreme or fad style or violate safety requirements. Extend below any side of an invisible line drawn parallel to the ground at the bottom edge of the shirt collar regardless of length. Length will not be excessive. Include hair ornaments such as ribbons, beads, jeweled pins, or hair scrunchy. Prevent proper wear of headgear. Exceed minimum length/bulk (1 inch not to exceed 3 inches in bulk). Dreadlocks are not authorized.

19. Mustache: Neatly trimmed; extend downward beyond the lip line of the upper lip or extend sideways beyond a vertical line drawn upward from both corners of the mouth.

20. Beard: Not authorized, except for health reasons when authorized by a commander on the advice of a medical official. If commander authorizes, members will keep facial hair trimmed not to exceed 1/4 inch in length. Individuals granted a shaving waiver will not shave any facial hair.

21. Sideburns: neatly trimmed and tapered in the same manner as the haircut. Will be straight and of even width (not flared) and end in a clean- shaven horizontal line. Sideburns: will not extend below the lowest part of the exterior ear opening.

22. Conservative and in good taste.

23. Single color (compliment skin tone) and French manicure. No decorations. Will not exceed 1/4 inch (males also). Will not wear shades of lipstick and nail polish that distinctly contrast with their complexion, that detract from the uniform, or that are extreme. Some examples of extreme colors include but are not limited to, purple, gold, blue, black, bright (fire-engine) red, and fluorescent colors. NOTE: Males are not to wear nail polish.

24. Grading is subjective. The first two - three weeks are grooming only inspections for new cadets. If the cadet is issued and wears the uniform, you will only count off points for grooming. Point out any uniform wear discrepancies to educate the new cadet.

25.  All cadets are advised to meet standards by a specified date.  The first inspection:  1 to 5 points deduction if the hair:  Touches the ears.  Sideburns extend below opening of the ear; are flared, not cut cleanly horizontally.  Exceeds the bulk minimums but are not too extreme.  More than 5 point deduction:  Cadet made no attempt to get hair cut.  AS-II – ASIV cadets should meet or exceed standards. Hair is grossly long.

26. Failing Grade -10 to -15 -5

27. Ear Rings not proper style or placement. -5 to -15 Hair: Lots of loose hairs -5 -5 to -10.
