1
Psychoanalysis In Shakespearean Characterizations
2
What is Psychoanalysis? Psychoanalysis includes the world of dark thoughts and hidden notions that a person hides from himself/herself. It has to do with talking or verbalism simply because only talking can actually arouse these thoughts.
3
What Is It Based on? Psychoanalysis has multiple different versions. All versions have one thing on which they’re based on: the idea of something called the unconscious.
4
Unconsciousness Unconsciousness is all about being in a place in your head where all ancient thoughts are buried and trying to recall and revive such thoughts to completely alter the situation you’re in. The exact process goes in the characterizations of literature.
5
Characterizations The master of psychoanalysis in literature is known to be Shakespeare. Shakespeare exhibits psychoanalysis in his characters simply because he truly knows how people think; therefore, his characters sound more real than any other writer’s characters.
6
Shakespearean Psychoanalysis Macbeth, a former captain in Duncan's army, who later becomes the Thane, takes his fate into his own hands and breaks his way to the throne when the three witches predict that he’s going to be the king of Scotland one day. Psychoanalysis in this character lead him to think this way and proceed as a result of the Shakespearean characterization.
7
Duncan’s decision to pass the kingdom to his son Malcolm provokes his predicted death at the hands of Macbeth. Once again, the witches’ foretelling aroused psychoanalysis and lead to this major event.
8
The rivalry between Lady MacBeth and her husband was an intense one constructed by psychoanalysis. Shakespeare knows exactly how the two couples would vow revenge from each other because he has the ability to go inside other folks’ minds and study their psychologies and reactions.
9
Banquo was also told by the witches that his child will once become the king. Psychoanalysis, the prediction of how Shakespeare believes MacBeth would react to this, causes MacBeth’s rage at Banquo fearing not to reach the throne.
10
Colclusion Eventually, we can tell that Shakespeare used psychoanalysis to professionally characterize the characters in a real manner by predicting how a person in real life would react to real life situations by appealing to unconsciousness and hidden thoughts. He knows the mentality of folks. So, he is the master of psychoanalysis.
